Ryan Gosling- Greta Gerwig didnt hold anything back on The Late Show

The idea of Ryan Gosling’s “Barbie” pitch for a fight between Ken and Mink Coat was rejected. He said that the coat would “love him, defeat him,” and be “born anew out of the mink.”

Now that “Barbie” can be streamed on Max, director and co-writer Greta Gerwig made her way through the late-night press circuit, sharing on “The Late Show” one of the most outrageous ideas Ryan Gosling had for his character Ken in the movie.

A white mink coat is one of the character’s most iconic outfits from the popular comedy. Gerwig claims that Gosling approached her about having Ken battle the mink coat and dance with it in the “I’m Just Ken” fantasy ballet.

Ryan Gosling’s hilarious idea that failed to secure airtime

“One of the ideas that Ryan had was that he would have a dance duet with his mink [coat],” Gerwig explained. “The mink would be fighting him and then love him and then fight him and then eventually defeat him and then he would be birthed anew out of the mink.”

“Somewhere there is rehearsal footage of this,” Gerwig continued. “It’s in the vault. Even though it didn’t end up being in the movie, it was that kind of openness and everybody bringing these wild, brilliant ideas that allowed [the movie] to happen in its form. We had a fun week exploring what it would be if he did his mink ballet.”

Costume designer for the movie “Barbie,” Jacqueline Durran, recently talked to Variety about picking out the ideal mink coat for Ken to wear.

“That coat is fake,” Durran stressed. “But, if you look closely at the inner lining, we did line it with a horse print.” This alludes to Ken’s infatuation with horses following his obsession with patriarchy.

What was the inspiration behind the mink coat?

Durran continued, saying that the main source of inspiration for the mink coat came from an image she saw of Sylvester Stallone wearing a fur coat while she and Gerwig were deciding what the poisonous version of Ken would look like. “The movie contains that image.

According to Durran, “It was such a great representation of the style and exuberance of someone like him wearing a huge mink coat in the ’80s that it just had to become part of the Ken look.”

Ryan accepted the appearance wholeheartedly. He was prepared to go to any length Greta desired.

In Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy Barbie, Gosling played Ken opposite Margot Robbie in the lead role. He also performed a cover of Matchbox Twenty’s “Push” and the song “I’m Just Ken” for the movie’s soundtrack.

An overwhelming number of critics have praised his performance, calling it “peak Gosling” for his humorous work and saying he “comes close to stealing the movie” in an article from Vulture.

His song “I’m Just Ken” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media. For his performance, he has also been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award.

Next, Gosling and Emily Blunt will co-star in the action movie The Fall Guy. and with Robbie in an Ocean film series prequel.
